Starting in season 7 we will be introducing a new way to use your participation points. For players 28 years or older, you will now have the opportunity to use participation points three times in their career to prevent them from declining in training camp.
This has been a discussion since ABCA Legends and has actually been passed a vote to be implemented both in Legends and Ultimate but for whatever reason we never got around to adding it in. So the committee decided to revisit it and agreed that it was a good idea to officially implement it starting next season.
To further explain what all of this means, I’ll breakdown what I mean by players declining, how we will prevent it from happening when you use the camp, how much it will cost and what limitations it will have.
Players Declining: In Fast Break Pro Basketball 3 players can begin to decline in both skill and athleticism at any age above 27 years old. This means a player can randomly go from having a 90 3-Point rating to a 75 3-point rating at the age of 28, or go from having a 88 quickness to a 62 quickness at the age of 29, or something of that nature. With the way that this game works, these drops can drastically change a players effectiveness and make them unusable in what should be the prime of their career. In real life you we do see some players decline drastically at this age instead of continuing to contribute into their 30s but it’s more of an exception to the norm. In ABCA however it is the opposite and we are looking to give you the ability to correct this.
Preventing it: This is the most straightforward portion of the announcement. To prevent it, once a team pays the necessary amount of participation points, the selected player will TEMPORARILY be set to the age of 27 years old. This is because the age of 27 is literally the only time in a players career that they are guaranteed not to decline in any way shape or form.
Cost: The cost that we have decided on as of now is also tied to the limitations but I will talk about that in the next section. The cost will climb based on the amount of times a player makes use of this feature. The first time you protect them from decline the cost will be 750PP, the second time you protect a player from decline the cost will be 1000PP, and the third time you use it the cost will be 1250PP. You are able to use your UBI to pay for this in full for the first attempt, and in part for the second and third times.
Limitations: The first limitation was already discussed a few times in this announcement and that is the fact that you can only use this three times in a players career. After the third time protecting a player in their career they will no longer be eligible and will have to deal with whatever declines TC may bring. You do not have to use the three attempts in three consecutive seasons so you can choose to protect a player in season 7, then season 9, then season 12 for example. The next limitation is that this will be limited to a single player per season so even if you generate a lot of participation points every season, you can just protect all of your older players. This will allow there to be some strategy as you may have to decide between who to protect in some seasons if you field an older team.
So that’s the long and short of it with the career extender. When this has been brought up in past leagues there has always been some discussion on whether this should be something we implement for players that are ages 26 and younger as they can also decline (albeit in a different way) in training camp. I’ll include a poll in this thread to gauge the league’s feelings on that but for now this will be for players ages 28 & up. As always feel free to ask any questions or just give your thoughts because discussion is always welcomed and appreciated.
